A by BOM Blue Cica Azulene Dew Soothing Hydration Cream Review
The A by BOM Blue Cica Azulene Dew Soothing Hydration Cream looks mesmerizing with its translucent yet gorgeous blue color and gel texture. But isn’t a blue cream unnatural? I was skeptical of creams that are not white or plant colored, and automatically thought of artificial coloring. However, after reading into the ingredients and trying this cream for a few months, I now understand why people (including BeautyWithin’s Felicia and Rowena) are raving about this blue gel cream!
TL;DR
– A little product goes a long way (will last you a long time)
– 100 ml of product in jar (great deal!)
– Multiple skin benefits (Skin soothing and long lasting hydration without heaviness)
Ingredients
You’ll be happy to know that the blue color is actually natural pigment from a plant ingredient!
But let’s back up for a sec.
This cream is full of ingredients that soothe, hydrate, and nourish the skin. The most notable are:
- Azulene: A naturally blue pigmented compound that comes from distilled Blue Tansy, German Chamomile, or Yarrow. This ingredient is gaining popularity in skincare for its skin soothing benefits, reducing redness and calming skin irritations.
- Deep Sea Water from Gangwon, Korea: Untouched by sunlight, deep sea water from Gangwon, Korea is pure and holds the perfect mineral balance of magnesium, calcium, and potassium. These minerals help rejuvenate tired, dull skin back to a healthy vibrance.
- Centella Asiatica: Everyone’s favorite skin soothing plant ingredient.
- Spirulina: A blue-green algae used in skincare for its anti-inflammatory and hydrating properties. This ingredient not only calms irritated skin and acne, but it also helps skin heal. Both Spirulina and Azulene contain antioxidants that destroy free radicals that cause signs of aging.
- Pentavin: A plant derived ingredient that can penetrate deep into the skin layers due to its small molecular structure. This ingredient boosts our natural production of Hyaluronic Acid and deeply hydrates the skin by acting like a water magnet. Because Pentavin goes deep within the skin, it can’t be washed off easily which plays a key role in water retention for longer lasting hydration.
Okay, so basically you get the combined skin-soothing powers of Azulene, Spirulina, and Centella Asiatica, PLUS Witch Hazel, Aloe, and Turmeric Root (all have skin-soothing benefits).
As for the hydration factor, you have Pentavin, Fig Extract, and Hyaluronic Acid.
I love soothing creams for my sensitive skin. My skin was very happy with these ingredients!
Texture
This gel cream has a unique hybrid texture composed of mini oil capsules embedded in an aloe vera-like gel cream. These capsules burst upon application, delivering moisture. So you get the lightness of a gel cream, but deep hydration of moisturizing facial oils.
It’s much more hydrating than plain aloe vera –thanks to the oil capsules – but just as lightweight in texture as aloe vera.
Packaging
The gel cream comes in a 100ml jar with a spatula. 100 ml is actually quite a lot for a cream, especially if you’re going to use a pea size with each use. I can see this lasting me an entire year. So in that sense, you definitely get a bang for your buck.
I found this product similar to Klair’s Midnight Blue Calming Cream in that it both contains Azulene for calming the skin. However, I often hear from skincare enthusiasts on Reddit that the Klair’s cream is not hydrating enough and there is not much product in the jar. So in comparison, you really get your money’s worth since you get almost 3x as much product, the calming benefits of Azulene, AND hydrating benefits.
Performance
I have combination-sensitive skin and both my oily T zone and my drier cheek areas benefited from this gel cream without canceling each other out.
It’s so hydrating in fact, that a little goes a long way! I was surprised at how hydrating this gel cream is. Even a dime sized blob was too much! A pea sized amount gives enough hydration to the entire face.
The cream instantly soothed my redness and acne. Plus, it has a cooling effect on use. (It feels extra refreshing when you put it in the fridge before application!). I also used it as a wash-off mask when my skin was overheated from the sun.
Verdict
My skin calmed down and felt hydrated from the inside without feeling oily or heavy. This is KEY! This is definitely why people are raving about this gel cream.
Overall, the A by BOM Blue Cica Azulene Dew Soothing Hydration Cream is a multi-use soothing gel cream that has so many skin loving ingredients. This is a great product for all skin types, but especially for those who have combination to oily skin or live in warmer climates.
