Tea and skincare anyone?
Beautchat, an online lifestyle community with a focus on K-Beauty, recently hosted a fun tea blending class in Seoul, where I got to blend my own tea and pair them with skincare! Tea and skincare; I couldn’t ask for a better combination of two things I love.
It just so happens that various tea ingredients have been implemented in skincare for ages. Green tea and black tea are two popular ingredients that we see in skincare often. But there are so many other exquisite ingredients that are used for both tea and skincare!
At this tea and skincare blending class, we had our Beautchat host, Sarah Oh, with her insightful knowledge of skincare, and Irene Lee, a tea sommelier from Chawa, to guide our tea blending and skincare pairing.
ANTIOXIDANT BOOSTER
The first tea I blended was an antioxidant booster which included chaga mushroom, lotus root, balloon flower, finger root, Job’s tear, and cinnamon. Full of antioxidant and immunity boosters, this tea was paired with the Oneoseven Low pH Chaga Cleanser. As someone who’s been drinking chaga mushroom tea as an immune system booster for years, I was immediately drawn to this cleanser. And after one week with this cleanser, it earned a permanent spot in my cleansing routine!
DIET/DETOX BOOSTER
The second tea we blended was a diet booster that included burdock, oats, barley, pig potato, and kakao nibs. This tea is especially great for intestinal health and was paired with Kinvane Hyper PDRN Hyaluronic Toner which contains beta-glucan and barely. The texture of this toner reminds of the Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Toner, but slightly lighter and sinks into the skin better. I have a feeling this toner will become my daily product soon.
VITALITY BOOSTER
The third tea was a skin vitality booster that’s blended with lemon balm, dried lemon, lemon myrtle, lemongrass, dried grapefruit, and dried orange. As you can tell from the ingredients, this tea is full of vitamins that boosts the skin’s vitality. There were a few options in terms of skincare from the stash Beautchat provided, but the Neogen Real Vita C Serum was the one I was most excited about. 22% Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (a stabilized source of vitamin C) and Niacinamide? You got me there!
STABILIZER
The last tea I blended was the one that felt most unique to me. It was a skin stabilization booster! This tea includes green tea, aloe vera, dried lime, rosemary, apple mint, mulberry tea, and parsley.
Green tea, of course, most of us are familiar with. But, this was my first time using aloe vera and parsley in tea! This refreshing yet calming tea was paired with the Blithe Patting Splash Mask Soothing and Healing Green Tea, AwakeAsleep Parsley Seed Energy Serum, and Nacific Fresh Herb Origin Serum. I couldn’t choose just one product to pair with this tea, because all three products are equally unique!
I’ve tried the Blithe Patting Splash Mask Yellow Citrus and Honey a few years ago. I felt that the benefits were better achieved through other products that are easier and faster to use. Three years later, what do I think of the Green Tea version of the Blithe Patting Splash Mask? My daily skincare routine would still be more efficient without it, but for a weekend self care sesh, yes please! Bottom line, it works guys. It calms, soothes, and also balances skin really well. But, don’t compare it to a sheet mask.
The AwakeAsleep Parsley Seed Energy Serum is a very new one for me. When I think of parsley seed for skincare, Aesop’s Parsley Seed Anti-Oxidant Serum comes to mind. This K-Beauty version also contains centella asiatica and has lighter texture that absorbs better into skin compared to the Aesop one.
The Nacific Fresh Herb Origin Serum is a blend of aloe vera leaf water and various citrus oils. This serum was recommended to me every time I walked in to LOHBS in 2018. I’m serious; every single time! I gave in after the 10th time and bought one. My skin was extremely weak and sensitive at the time, so when tried it, I kept getting redness and itchy irritations. Most likely due to various citric oils that sensitized skin can’t handle well. I passed it on to a friend and she loved it.
