Laneige Cream Skin Refiner Dupe?
If you’re into Kbeauty, chances are you’ve seen cream hybrids hitting the market and getting widely popular the past few years. Starting out with Laneige’s Cream Skin, there’s now cream hybrids from a wide range of brands, with different functions. In this Prebiotic Cera Cream Mist Review, I’ll compare the OG Cream Skin with The Lab by Blanc Doux’s Prebiotic-Cera Cream Mist – an even lighter alternative to its predecessor.
What are cream hybrids?
Basically, cream toners, serums, or mists are formulated with the same type of ingredients that would typically be used for thicker, more conventional creams and moisturizers – but in a much lighter liquid form. By formulating the creams into these much lighter consistencies, they offer people two steps in one product. Most Koreans who use cream toners or mists use them as a single step for both toning and moisturizing. And due to the light texture, users can choose the optimal amount of layers to apply for their skin type. Pretty convenient, in other words!
The OG: Laneige Cream Skin Refiner
Intended to be used as a toner-cream “all in one,” the Cream Skin is a pretty heavy-feeling milky blue-ish liquid. Laneige describes this product as a “cream dissolved in toner” which is a very fitting description as this liquid does have the “thick” feel of a moisturizer. Looking closer at the ingredients, this cream skin contains goodies like:
- Glycerin: A very common hydrant used in most “moisturizing” skincare products
- Green Tea: Antioxidant rich and overall balancing
- Meadowfoam Seed Oil: Skin soothing and smoothing
This cream skin is recommended for all skin types, but my first impression when patting this in was that it felt slightly burning around my dry eye area. Other than that, the application is simple yet a bit messy due to the bottle format. On the skin, this looks dewy, but feels a bit heavy. For someone with oily skin like me, one or two layers is more than enough to make my skin satisfied.
The Dupe: The Lab by Blanc Doux Prebiotic-Cera Cream Mist
Coming in a spray bottle with a fine mist, this cream mist is intended to be used either on its own, as an intensely hydrating mist to finish off your routine, or as a supplement to mix in with your moisturizer. Application is easy, and the liquid itself doesn’t feel as tacky/heavy as the Laneige Cream Skin. So far so good!
Ingredients-wise, this cream-mist mainly focuses on keeping your skin barrier healthy and supple with ingredients like:
- Prebiotics: Help keep your skin’s microbiome healthy and balanced
- Ceramides: One of our skin’s building blocks. Smoothes and deeply hydrates
- Meadowfoam Seed Oil: Same as the Laneige Cream Skin! Skin soothing and smoothing
This one didn’t stay around my eyes, and generally went on much lighter than the cream skin. I tried using this in two ways – on its own as a finishing touch (I looked super glowy all day)! And as a priming step for my face makeup to get that ‘lit from within’ glow.
The Lab Prebiotic Cera Cream Mist vs. Laneige Cream Skin Refiner
In short, the Laneige Cream Skin Refiner does a good job at what it’s supposed to do – it hydrates, and is layerable with some good hydrators and balancing ingredients. However, my main irks about this product (when comparing it to The Lab by Blanc Douxs Cream Mist) is the pretty bulky and inconvenient packaging, and how heavily it sits on my skin.
Strangely, even though the Prebiotic Cera Cream Mist from The Lab by Blanc Doux is a lighter product in consistency, it feels even more moisturizing than the Laneige Cream Skin Refiner does. With its skin barrier-protecting ingredients like Ceramides and Prebiotics, the Cream Mist won me over for good. I was looking for a dupe when testing out these two but I feel like I ended up finding the Cream Skin Refiner’s new and improved cool cousin from the city.
