The first time I laid my eyes on the AHC Safe On Light Sun Serum, I can’t say that I had particularly high hopes. My previous experiences with sun serums have been all over the place—either too streaky and difficult to work with, too thin and sensitizing, or simply not enough protection. This sun serum from AHC however, has changed all that for me. Why? Keep reading my AHC Safe On Light Sun Serum Review to find out why this oily-skin gal is head over heels in love!
First Impressions
After the sunscreen-scandal that shook the Kbeauty community earlier this year, I think most of us have been a bit wary about some sunscreens. If a sunscreen is as thin and smooth as a serum… Can it actually protect my skin?
That’s exactly what I thought when I first tested this sun serum on my hand and saw a pink, slightly gritty gel absorb into my skin without any residue within seconds. It felt so good! So smooth! Could it really be SPF 50+ as promised?
Set out to find disappointing news, I quickly Googled the sun serum, and came out pleasantly surprised. This sun serum actually passed all testing done in connection to the sunscreen-scandal with flying colors! Yup, this smooth, white-cast proof sun serum actually held its promise!
Texture, Application, & Finish
This serum is a pink, gritty gel-texture that runs smooth and thin. The sun serum itself comes in a handy pump-packaging that I honestly wished more sunscreens came in—it’s so convenient!
The gritty texture of this serum was a bit surprising at first. I thought I might have gotten an expired or faulty product since I imagined this to be a completely smooth gel. Nope! Those gritty-looking things were actually encapsulated Hyaluronic Acid balls to amp up the hydration! You can’t feel them on your skin at all as they burst on application. When applying the serum to my face, it leaves a slight cooling feeling (thanks to the Calamine) and it quickly absorbs into my skin without any tacky feeling nor white-cast.
Another plus is definitely its lost-lasting finish. Even though this sunscreen leaves a glowy finish, I don’t end up looking like I’ve used grease as my highlighter after a few hours of applying it. Thumbs up—it even works well with my makeup! No pilling, no streaking and no weird purple/blue tones shining through.
