Best Korean sheetmasks for sensitive skin.
Not all masks are created equal.
I have sensitive skin. I once had a reaction to a sheetmask that caused red bumps to form all over my face. After that unforgettably gross incident, I became very picky about which sheetmasks I use.
So, I am perpetually on the lookout for effective sheetmasks that are gentle enough for sensitive skin. Here are some of my favorite masks plus tips on how to maximize effectiveness and minimize reactions.
My sensitive skin loves healing Centella Asiatica in a sheet mask. The Hyggee Relief Blue Flower Mask has Centella and Comfrey Leaf Extract for added soothing and healing benefits. Comfrey Leaf contains Allatoin which is also effective for soothing skin.
I like to use this one after a sunny day when my skin has been overheated and overexposed to the sun. The gel-like essence instantly cools down my red and overheated skin thanks to the Aloe Vera in it! My skin feels plump and hydrated; red and stressed skin is totally relieved.
I first used this mask when I was sick and had to meet a friend whom I hadn’t seen in a while. It instantly brightened up my face! #glowup! Since then, I’ve been popping these on my face whenever I want gentle brightening to the skin. With all EWG green grade and 99% natural ingredients, this is the perfect mask for those with sensitive skin who want that glow without the worries of irritation.
This is my go-to mask when I have acne breakouts or my skin feels clogged. Tea tree is effective for fighting acne and helps control sebum. I like that it stays moist for a long time and tea tree is one of my favorite ingredients! I spritz my face with the Aqulabo Jelly Mist before using this mask to open up the absorption pathway of my skin and boost the effectiveness of the tea tree.
I use this mask when I want instant recovery usually after/during international business trips when my face looks dull, tired, and dry post flights. The price tag is a tad steeper but it’s so worth it to have on hand. My face is noticeably brighter, smoother, and moisturized; it’s the ideal mask to prep my skin to look presentable for meetings the next day. Another favorite thing about this mask is that it has THE perfect cushy thickness and fit. AND IT DOESN’T DRIP!
The unique thing about this mask is that is has two steps. First, you gently tone and exfoliate pad that’s soaked in Lotus Leaf extract and Lactic Acid so your skin is better prepped to get the maximum benefits of the mask essence. Then you put on the mask that’s soaked in Niacinamide, Green Tea, and Lotus Leaf extracts which are all great at soothing and making your skin look more alive.
While the The Pure Lotus 2-Step Mask gives me instant visual recovery, the 107 Avocado Cuddle Sheet Mask gives my worn out, dull skin instant revitalizing effects from within. My skin looks so alive, purified, and plump after use thanks to all of the benefits of the fermented Vinegar and superfood Avocado Extract.
I reach for this mask when I have not sheetmasked in a while and need to recharge my skin with new life.
The Water Type masks include Lime, Bamboo, Tea Tree, Green Tea, Broccoli…basically anything green it seems. I find the ‘Essence Type’ masks irritating to my skin which is why I always go for the Water Types as the ingredient list is better suited for sensitive skin. The Essence Type masks tend to have Alcohol in the formulations. I also like that Innisfree masks are very affordable so you can stock up! Just remember to check on the bottom right corner for the Water Type symbol.
More Tips on Sheetmasks for Sensitive Skin
Do not use a new sheet mask for the first time before a special event; you never know how your sensitive skin will react to a new sheet mask even if the ingredients list checks out. Sometimes it’s the formulation of the ingredients that matters more than individual ingredients. But in general, best practice would be to avoid irritating ingredients such as Alcohol and Ethanol.
Another tip for sensitive skin is to keep your sheetmasking frequency to less than three times a week. Exposing new ingredients too often can cause irritation.
Sometimes it’s the formulation of the ingredients that matters more than individual ingredients.
You can also keep this rule of thumb when it comes to frequency based on the type of mask:
- Lifting / Brightening / Anti-aging — Keep usage of these to a minimum to low frequency
- Soothing / Hydrating — You can use these more liberally
This rule can also apply to those without sensitive skin!
